Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Structural Analysis/Test Engineer. The role requires support of spacecraft structural design, analysis, and test from concept level through design reviews, design verifications using analytical methods and testing, plus operations. In addition to predictive and analytical work, engineers will serve on-console during spacecraft structural test activities and/or operations which can include periods of off-hours or on call work.
  • Highly motivated candidate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience structural analytics utilizing a mixture of numerical and analytical techniques.
  • Experience working with MSC Software and its related products is highly preferred (NASTRAN, Apex, PATRAN, ADAMS, etc.)
  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or equivalent degree required
  • Must possess an understanding of the basic principles of solid mechanics and material science in conjunction with static and dynamic launch environment loads.
  • Creating detailed finite element models of satellite structures and sub-systems and conducting analyses including but not limited to static, dynamic, buckling, thermal, linear, non-linear and transient for complex spacecraft systems and/or sub-systems composed of various materials (isotropic, orthotropic, composites, honeycomb and non-linear) used in the space industry.
  • Familiarity with vibration testing equipment and ability to perform vibration (random, sine, quasi-static), shock, and deployment testing is a plus
  • Ownership of mechanical test projects from start to finish including but not limited to: obtaining quotations from the test house, resolving schedule conflicts internally and externally, planning logistics of the test with the test house if testing is out-sourced, designing and analyzing test fixtures, assessment of tools/ hardware required for each test, transportation of the test item to the test house and documentation of al the decision and changes
  • Developing test plans, procedures, and reports for mechanical analyses and tests including but not limited to vibration, shock, acceleration, life and endurance test
  • Previous experience developing detailed and/ or simplified structural models for spacecraft systems, subsystems, and components is a plus.
  • Experience with Solidworks or other equivalent CAD software is a must.
  • Interfacing with outside vendors /test facilities to coordinate mechanical testing logistics and requirements
  • Participating in team discussions involving vehicle arrangement and design/ analysis for ongoing and future projects
  • Design and analysis of testing fixtures suitable for conducting mechanical tests
  • Working in both an office and lab environment is required
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Applicant must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance and all special accesses required to work at such facilities.
